Summer is swiftly rushing by and dreams of vacations begin to come through! However, some were spending a chilly July with us in St. Petersburg, attending events, receiving new information, acquiring new business contacts, and saving energy for the upcoming holidays … So, we present our July report!
On the 4th of July during the visit of Lord Mayor of the City of London, British Consulate General in partnership with SPIBA held a legal seminar on the application of English law in commercial disputes in the Russian Federation or in connection with doing business with Russia. Also on the 5th of July we had a business breakfast on the topic “Going Global – using London as Springboard to International Expansion”, dedicated to raising capital and IPOs on the London Stock Exchange. Breakfast was attended by managers and CFOs of companies that shared their experiences on raising capital.
July 10th SPIBA HR Committee continued a series of meetings “Breakfast with the director,” and invited Alexey Ananishnov, director of “Consumer Adhesives” branch of the company Henkel Russia. Alexey spoke about the history of the brand “Moment”, the results of the creative Henkel teamwork and was a living example of the company slogan – “Excellence is our passion”! Indeed, a passion for their work is the essential part to the success of any project!
July 17th we held the SPIBA General Meeting. The guest of the meeting was Alexander Prokhorenko, Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg. Alexander talked about the prospects and directions of development of St. Petersburg as part of the Strategy-2020. The speech by Mr. Prokhorenko aroused great interest from the Members’ , as well as numerous representatives of mass media. Once again, we would like to thank Mr. Prokhorenko for his time, and the Committee for External Relations for their assistance in organizing the meeting and preparing a video about St. Petersburg that you can see on our website!
On the 20th of July the Finance Committee organized event on “IFRS: New Concepts and Perspectives.” Sergey Moderov, Head of IAS Institute of Entrepreneurship, Quality Controller Kreston International, spoke about such issues related to IFRS, as the legal requirements, leasing, mergers and acquisitions, accounting in banks, in trading, manufacturing, construction, etc. Also, the participants of the meeting discussed the convergence of Russian accounting standards with IFRS and related to this problems.
July 25th SPIBA met with Secretary of State’s Special Representative for Global Intergovernmental Affairs Ms. Reta Jo Lewis. Ms. Lewis met with representatives and heads of several companies – SPIBA members -and got to know their opinion about the conditions of business in St. Petersburg and Leningrad region and the state and prospects for economic cooperation with the United States.
On the 26th of July the SPIBA Marketing and Communications Committee with the support of the “Friends of GMZ Peterhof “and SEZ resident company Rakurs Engineering organized a meeting of representatives of Russian and foreign companies with the CEO of GMZ “Peterhof” Kalnitskaya Elena Yakovlevna. Dialogue on the theme “Sustainable Development brand through cultural politics of business” was held at the Farmer Palace, located at the Alexandria Park. GMZ “Peterhof” is a successful example of a strong brand. Meeting with its General Director – is always a possibility for businesses to make the life of society and company richer, and the company’s brand – stronger. During the event, members of SPIBA discussed with GMZ “Peterhof” partnership opportunities and talked about the power of personality in the development of a brand. After the round table participants of the meeting had a tour of the newly renovated Farmer Palace.
