“Cultural Promenade” for the exhibition “The Great Karl. On the 225th Anniversary of K.P. Bryullov’s Birth”

2000р.On Saturday, December 21, as part of the Cultural Promenade project, the Russian Museum offers to visit the exhibition “The Great Karl. On the 225th Anniversary of K.P. Bryullov’s Birth” in an exclusive format of “educational thematic lecture and excursion”.
The anniversary exhibition of Karl Pavlovich Bryullov in the Mikhailovsky Palace has become one of the main events in the artistic life of St. Petersburg. The exhibition presents more than 300 works by the master from the largest museums of the country and private collections.
The key exhibit of the exhibition is the grandiose canvas “The Last Day of Pompeii” – a world-famous masterpiece of Russian painting. Bryullov’s widely known work was first presented to the public after a comprehensive restoration.
A popular science lecture with a presentation “Vesuvius opened its mouth…” will be held for visitors to the event in the Garden Vestibule of the Mikhailovsky Palace at 18.00. Volcanoes: Myths and Reality”. Lecturer: B.A. Markovsky, Honored Geologist of Russia, leading researcher at the All-Russian Research Geological Institute named after A.P. Karpinsky.
During the lecture, in particular, the life of volcanoes and the eruption of Vesuvius, one of the oldest volcanoes on our planet, will be discussed. Listeners will learn about the reasons that led to the tragic death of the city of Pompeii and its inhabitants, about the truth and fiction in the depiction of this catastrophe by Karl Bryullov.
After the lecture at 18.45, visitors will be able to visit the exhibition of works by Karl Bryullov with a guided tour.
