About Corinthia Hotels

Corinthia is a global collection of luxury five-star hotels founded by the Pisani family of Malta in 1962. The ‘Spirit of Corinthia’ story goes back to 1959, when 22-year-old Alfred Pisani (still Chairman of Corinthia Hotels today) and his siblings converted a palatial villa into a wedding venue. Soon after, the Pisani family turned the property into one of the island’s first upmarket restaurants in December 1962 – fittingly naming it the Corinthia Palace Restaurant, after its iconic Corinthian columns.

In June 1968, Mr Pisani proudly welcomed the Duke of Edinburgh and other VIP guests at the opening of Corinthia Palace Hotel, the first hotel in the company. Since then, the Corinthia brand has grown from strength to strength, developing an impressive portfolio of luxury hotels as well as residential and commercial properties.

The Corinthia portfolio features the flagship Corinthia Hotel and Residences in London, as well as award-winning Corinthia Hotels in Budapest, Malta, St Petersburg, Prague, Lisbon, Khartoum and Tripoli. Corinthia recently also announced the acquisition and redevelopment of the landmark Grand Hotel Astoria in Brussels, to be relaunched as the Corinthia Grand Hotel Astoria, as well a new luxury beach resort under construction by the UAE-based Meydan Group in Dubai, to be known as the Corinthia at Meydan Beach. Both hotels are due to open in 2019.

The set of values that permeates Corinthia Hotels, affectionately known as the ‘Spirit of Corinthia’, is truly unique and is what differentiates the brand from other leading names in the hotel industry. Over the decades, founder and Chairman Alfred Pisani has repeatedly reminded colleagues that a competitive advantage depends primarily upon the extent to which staff sincerely care for one another, are willing to share our knowledge, go out of our way to help one another, strive for precision, and deliver service with warmth and passion. These are the features of a healthy family and the traits of true craftsmanship.  Each of Corinthia’s hotels and resorts, in some of the most exciting cities in the world, are a tribute to architectural grandeur and cultural traditions.

Today Corinthia is a family of 2,500 colleagues, and has its sights firmly set on becoming a global luxury brand over the coming years. Corinthia Hotels are managed by Corinthia Hotels Limited which is the operating arm of International Hotel Investments (IHI) PLC, a publicly-traded company in Malta.
