«Cultural Promenade» for the exhibition «The Great Karl. On the 225th Anniversary of K.P. Bryullov’s Birth»

A popular science lecture with a presentation «Vesuvius opened it’s mouth…» will be held for visitors to the event in the Garden Vestibule of the Mikhailovsky Palace at 18.00. Volcanoes: «Myths and Reality». Lecturer: B.A. Markovsky, Honored Geologist of Russia, leading researcher at the All-Russian Research Geological Institute named after A.P. Karpinsky.

During the lecture, in particular, the life of volcanoes and the eruption of Vesuvius, one of the oldest volcanoes on our planet, will be discussed. Listeners will learn about the reasons that led to the tragic death of the city of Pompeii and it’s inhabitants, about the truth and fiction in the depiction of this catastrophe by Karl Bryullov.

After the lecture at 18.45, visitors will be able to visit the exhibition of works by Karl Bryullov with a guided tour.
